How Spider-Man Inspired the Ankle Monitor
In August and September 1977, the newspaper comic strip The Amazing Spider-Man ran a story in which the villain Kingpin attached a tracking device to Spider-Man. A judge in New Mexico named Jack Love read the strip and thought about how useful such a device would be to monitor whether someone convicted of drunk driving were to leave their home at night against court orders. Other people had considered such a device, but it was Judge Love that saw the project through to successful testing in the real world. He enlisted engineer Michael Goss to make the device, and tested it on himself first in 1983. The Goss-Link, as the prototype was called, sent a signal every 60 seconds to the wearer's land line phone, which dialed a central computer. If the wearer was more than 150 feet from the home phone, the calls would not happen, and an alert was sent to find the wearer. Then the judge launched a pilot program and put ankle monitors on three offenders under court supervision. An Honest Trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home is the result of the MCU taking advantage of fan discussions about who the best Spider-Man has been so far, with the three-Spider-Man comic meme acting as the cherry on top. At least that's what this movie's producers can say. We suspect the real story is that they didn't know what to do to guarantee a hit Spider-Man movie after all the movies so far, so they threw everything that worked from the previous dozen or so films into the mix. That includes the Spider-Men from alternate universes, plus the villains from previous movies, and another MCU superhero for comic relief. And you know what? It worked. Spider-Man: No Way Home was the biggest hit of 2021 and is still running in theaters, even though it's also available on home video. But there's still plenty of material for Screen Junkies to poke fun at for an Honest Trailer.#SpiderMan #SpiderManNoWayHome #HonestTrailer
That Spider-Man Meme, Recreated by Spider-Men
In the 1960s, there was an episode in the Spider-Man cartoon series in which Spidey confronts copies of himself. The three Spider-Men screen shot became an internet meme, one we've seen over and over for years now. The scene briefly made its way into the 2021 movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland. He meets up with alternate universe Spider-Men played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who played the superhero in earlier movies.
If Tim Burton Directed Spider-Man
Indie artist Illproxy sculpted this Spider-man atop a chimney based on the artwork of cartoonistSkottie Young (as published in his now defunct DeviantArt page). The long-limbed Spidey looks like he'd fit right in alongside Jack Skellington in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas!I love the fine details of Spider-man's web wings and the spider webs twisting around the chimney vent.See also: Illproxy's NeatoShop catalogImage: Illproxy/imgur#Spiderman #web #SkottieYoung #Illproxy #sculpture #fanart

YouTuber Jake Laser Built a Real Life Spider-Man Wall Climbing Suit
Popular YouTuber Jake Laser has done a lot of cool projects, but this is definitely one of his most impressive ones yet: inspired by Spider-Man: No Way Home, he built his own Spider-Man climbing suit to scale a skyscraper (well, okay, a tall building).First, Laser tested various creative ways to climb on walls: he tested adhesive tape, suction cups, electromagnets and other methods that ultimately didn’t work.Laser then thought of using a mini vacuum suction pump strapped to his hands and legs to stick and hold his weight. After a few tests and modifications, he successfully climbed up his bedroom wall and onto the ceiling. He’s now ready to climb an actual building just like Spider-Man!Watch Laser and his crew climb the 14-story Andaz West Hollywood hotel in southern California with nothing but his vacuum suction pumps, spider costume and safety rope and harness in this YouTube clip below.#SpiderMan #JakeLaser #vacuum #climbing #invention
