Nike Created Its Own Counterfeit Nike Shoes to Fight the US GovernmentWhile other companies go after those who counterfeit their products, Nike makes their own knockoff. Nike’s The One Line shoes first began as a ploy to get back at the US Government over a tariff dispute.Nike founder Phil Knight shed a sliver of light on the incident in his book Shoe Dog, explaining how The One Line was crafted to contest an obscure rule in the US Customs Code. In 1980, the American government had hit Nike with a $25 million tariff bill, which he claims was brought by his competitors in the shoe and rubber business lobbying to bring down Nike. So, the company produced a bootleg of their own shoes and priced it low in order to decrease the flagship products’ import tariff, which according to the US Custom policy is based on the price of a similar American-made product.The One Line shoes is a one-to-one knockoff of the Nike Oceania runner. Nike's 3D Air Max Billboard in JapanMarch 26 happens to be a special day for Nike fans : it happens to be the Nike Air Max Day.The iconic shoes is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and to commemorate it, Nike rolled out a 3D billboard outside of Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station. The Nike Air Max ad features an oversized Nike box thrust towards the street. Out of it, different Air Max designs come floating outside of the billboard. This Rare Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 Designed by Virgil Abloh Auctioned for $350KThe legacy of late designer Virgil Abloh remains strong as ever. Months after his passing, his Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 collaboration piece sells at around $100,000 a pair, with the US size 5 pair even going for $352,800 when it was auctioned off at Sotheby’s. The price tag makes it the most expensive pair sold, estimated to be 23.5 times higher than previous estimate for each release and twice as expensive as the next highest priced pair at $176,400 for size US 5.5.There were in total 200 pairs of the special edition, all retailed via Sotheby’s. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to The Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund.
