These Ant Man 3 Posters Are Walking Photoshop Blunders
We think we always say “yikes,” a lot when we look at just how much corporations fumble the bag when it comes to marketing and accessibility issues, so we’ll change it up. These posters suck!We apologize to the photoshop users who had to follow strict guidelines when it comes to creating action or superhero movies, because why in the world, do they all look the same? Just a bunch of collages of the faces (or the half-body shots) of actors looking cool, tough, or grim. After that, it’s just a weird cosmic-themed or some strong color or pattern for a background. Not gonna lie, we do need some creativity in these posters. But while that is one of the issues raised in these new Marvel posters, something else is off about them. Creativebloq’s Georgia Coggan noticed that not only are these new posters for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania were at odds with the old posters, which were in a minimalist design. Aside from that, they were also filled with some blunders, as Coggan wrote very enthusiastically: “Look at Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly. Look at their heads. LOOK AT THEIR HEADS. Who Photoshopped them on, and why are they so big? Why has half of Rudd's face melted? Why is the lighting different on all of them? So many questions, so little time.” She even took the time to notice some odd details as well. “Is there a reason why the stream of water that's running down the page is making The Wasp look as if half her head is missing? And the clunky placement of the characters set against that skyline in the bottom-left corner is less than subtle. “ She pointed out. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Gets a Comedy Trailer
The new Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has dropped several trailers already, but now we get one that really gets down to business. You may have been under the impression that She-Hulk is a superhero, and this is a Marvel superhero series. While that may be technically true, it is a comedy. To drive that concept home, Marvel made this parody trailer in the style of Law and Order. It is also a series about law and lawyers. And there are superheroes, but they don't spend all their time fighting supervillains for the good of all mankind. Sometimes they get in legal trouble, what with all the property damage, or they need a will drawn up, or the cops are jealous and are harassing them. She-Hulk, being an attorney with the same weird superpowers as the Hulk, is their go-to lawyer due to her insight into their unique lives. This gives Marvel an opportunity to showcase its other superheroes as guest stars without a big time commitment from the actors who play them. Now that we've got that cleared up, you might want to learn more about She-Hulk, or attorney Jennifer Walters, who are one and the same. Read her backstory in both comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the A.V. Club. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law will premiere on Disney+ on August 17th. That's this coming Wednesday! #SheHulkAttorneyAtLaw #SheHulk #Marvel
An Honest Trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
The problem with multiverses and alternate timelines is that anything, including death and disaster, can be undone in the blink of an eye, so that the impact of these events becomes dulled when you hop from one universe to another and back again. When that device is used repeatedly, the audience gets the sense that nothing that happens in a movie really matters. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's 28th film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, hops from one world to another in such a confusing manner that it's easier to give up trying to keep track of the plot and just enjoy the action. Screen Junkies made an attempt to do just that, but got caught up in the overuse of Marvel movie tropes that were repetitively stuffed into this film like sausages in their casings. Well, Marvel uses the tropes over and over again because the audience seems to like them. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the second-highest grossing movie so far in 2022. The Trailer for She-Hulk, Attorney at Law
She-Hulk, Attorney at Law is a new Marvel TV series on Disney+ starting in August. It's a comedy about Jennifer Walters (played by Tatiana Maslany), a lawyer who specializes in superhero-related cases. But she's also a superhero herself, as she grows a couple of feet taller and turns green to become She-Hulk! The nine-episode limited series is also an excuse to give some other Marvel regulars something to do between movies. Mark Ruffalo will appear as Bruce Banner (The Hulk), and we may see others in cameos. Whether or notShe-Hulk, Attorney at Law is a hit, we definitely need more superhero comedies. -via reddit #SheHulkAttorneyatLaw #Hulk #Marvel
Thor: Love and Thunder Finally has a Trailer
Our first taste of Thor: Love and Thunder is called a teaser trailer because it's only a minute and a half, which is long enough to make us want to see this film. Yeah, well, of course, we've been waiting for this movie for five years already (thanks, pandemic). Apparently, Thor's going through some kind of identity crisis and tries to reel it back just enough to let all his friends step into the spotlight. We can assume that we'll see plenty of Chris Hemsworth, along with Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. Gizmodo points out that Thor is now the only Marvel Studios character with four movies under their name. That's most likely because they wanted more of writer-director Taika Waititi, and who could blame them? Thor: Love and Thunder will play only in theaters starting on July 8.#Thor #ThorLoveandThunder #Marvel
Marvel Comics No.1 Sold for $2.4 Million
How much are you willing to pay for a comic book published in 1939? Five dollars? Ten dollars? But what if the 1939 comic book in question is Marvel's first comic book, and a "pay copy" at that (which means that it has the publisher's handwritten notes which record how much the artists were paid)? How much would you buy such a historic comic? For this unnamed man who just won the online auction for Marvel Comics #1, the comic book was worth $2,427,800. Yup. He bought it for that price. That's almost 100,000 times what Frank R. Paul earned when he drew the book's cover (he was paid $25). Now that's bonkers.Would you pay that much for one comic book?(Image Credit: Michael Cohen via AP)#Marvel #MarvelComics
Our First Look at Disney+'s Ms. Marvel
In a new TV series from Marvel Studios, we finally get a superhero who is Muslim. Yet considering we never get much insight into any superhero's religion, maybe it would be better to say we get out first superhero who descends from a Middle Eastern culture. Yet Ms. Marvel is still more than that. While much has been made of Spider-Man's youth, our Ms. Marvel hero Kamala Khan is the first superhero on screen who honestly comes across as a real teenager, with all the dreams and aspirations, fears, and frustrations that entails. Ms. Marvel is a six-episode miniseries, and will prepare audiences for Ms. Marvel's inclusion in the film The Marvels, set for 2023. Kamala Khan is actually the fourth Ms. Marvel in the comic books, after Carol Danvers, Sharon Ventura, and Karla Sofen. Get some background on how her Ms. Marvel came about in the comics. What Hawkeye Means to the Deaf Community
The Disney+ series Hawkeye follows the Marvel comic book character Hawkeye, whose real name is Clint Barton. Hawkeye is one of the Avengers, and the world's greatest archer. He is also losing his hearing. And that is groundbreaking for others who are hard of hearing, but rarely see the condition realistically depicted in TV or movies. Hawkeye not only explores the superhero's adjustment to hearing loss (Hawkeye is starting to learn sign language, but isn't good at it), it also has deaf characters played by deaf actors. The interaction between characters highlights the realistic struggles between the hearing, the hard of hearing, and the Deaf communities. The Deaf community, capitalized, refers to those who were pre-lingually deaf, mostly communicate through sign language, and consider it a cultural identity. The lower-case word deaf refers to anyone who can't hear for any reason. The difficulty Hawkeye encounters moving from the hearing to the non-hearing world is accurately illustrated in the series, including small touches that the Deaf community will instantly recognize. People who are deaf or hard of hearing rarely see themselves portrayed in media, and when a deaf character appears, it's often a single person surrounded by the hearing. Hawkeye dips into a world that millions inhabit but don't see reflected in pop culture. Author and media critic Jo Berry explains what makes Hawkeye different and how important the series is to the Deaf community and to those experiencing hearing loss. -via reddit #Hawkeye #Marvel #Avengers #deaf #Deafcommunity
Illustrating Marvel Superheroes in Their Free Time
Comic book superheroes are larger than life. They are always saving the world, defeating supervillains, and mending rifts in the space-time continuum. At least that's what we see. Yeah, sometimes they fall in love and deal with family matters, but those are cinematic enough to make it into the movies. How about offscreen? Do these heroes ever take a bath, watch sports, or do something just for fun? Barcelona artist and photographer David Cubero gives us a glimpse into the everyday world of superheroes with his realistic customized action figures. We see them playing games, although you have to watch out for those with superpowers involving sight.
