The Buzz Lightyear we know from the Pixar Toy Story movies is a toy. But that toy was merchandise based on the movie character Buzz Lightyear, a heroic Space Ranger, at least in the Toy Story universe. We only knew the toy, but now we get to see the movie that Andy loved and that spawned the heroic toy. The trailer for the Pixar movie Lightyear was released today.
So the Buzz Lightyear we already know and love is toy based on a fictional character in a fictional movie from a fictional animated world, but now that previously-unseen-and-assumed movie is real, even if the characters are computer generated. However, they are played by real voice actors.
Joining the previously announced Chris Evans, who lends his voice to Buzz, are Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi as a group of ambitious recruits. Peter Sohn voices Buzz’s robot companion, Sox, and the cast also includes the voices of Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. "The cast for ‘Lightyear’ is truly a dream team,” said MacLane.
Lightyear will be in theaters on June 17, 2022.
