What Lightyear is Really AboutThe new Pixar movie Lightyear opens nationwide this weekend. It centers around the character Buzz Lightyear. Ask anyone, and they'll tell you Buzz Lightyear is a toy spaceman in the Toy Story movies. But that's not who this movie is about. He's even got a different voice, that of Chris Evans. To explain Lightyear, the movie opens with this:“In 1995 Andy got a toy. That toy is from his favorite movie. This is that movie.”Okay, maybe that makes everything clear, except there's more to it than that. The movie we're talking about here came out in 1986, leaving plenty of time to sell a lot of Buzz Lightyear toys. And why not? We are still buying Darth Vader figures. But it gets more complicated, as the movie about Buzz Lightyear, space ranger, involves time travel, too. And it sparked a franchise, so there were Buzz Lightyear sequels, spinoffs, TV shows, etc, which is why the toy became popular. To answer the questions you may have about the premise behind Lightyear, Uproxx spoke with director Angus MacLane and producer Galyn Susman. You can read that interview here, and it might make your moviegoing experience a little easier when you see Lightyear.#Lightyear #BuzzLightyear #Pixar #interview
