The Official Trailer for WEIRD: The Al Yankovic StoryA young boy with dreams his parents don't understand. A talent no one can touch. An idea his friends don't appreciate. A strange Svengali who takes him under his wing. Sudden fame that leads to sex, drugs, and depression. All the usual cliché of musical biopics are woven together in WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Yankovic. The "totally true" story of the beloved musician's rise to immense stardom in the world of parody songs is, appropriately, a parody. We would have expected nothing less from Weird Al. If this trailer looks familiar, you are remembering the 2010 Funny or Die parody trailer with the same name with Aaron Paul as Yankovic. The problem with that one was that it was not a trailer for a real full-length movie; this one is. The Funny or Die skit was directed by Eric Appel, who co-wrote (with Al Yankovic) and directed the full-length movie. It just took him a while to get around to it. Yeah, Yankovic appears in the movie, but not as himself. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story will premier at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, and then debut on the Roku Channel on November 4. #WEIRDTheAlYankovicStory #WeirdAlYankovic #trailer #biopic #parody
Guess Who's Playing "Weird Al" in the BiopicFunny or Die and Tango are collaborating to produce a new movie called Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Eric Appel is director and executive producer, and he co-wrote the script with "Weird Al" Yankovic himself. Yankovic told Appel his life story, and Appel didn't believe a word of it, but agreed that it would make a good movie. So how much of the movie is fiction and how much is fact? It doesn't really matter, we know it's going to be funny anyway. But the big question is who will play Yankovic. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the answer.
