Iconic Man Ray's Photograph Le Violon d'Ingres Could Become the Most Expensive Photo Ever Sold
A new record is expected to be broken when this photograph goes to auction this May. Man Ray’s Le Violon d’Ingres (1924), which depicted a nude woman’s back overlaid with a violin’s f-holes, is expected to nab anywhere in the range of $5-7 million. If it hits that number, the picture will become the most expensive photograph ever sold at auction.Current record holder for a photograph is held by Andreas Gursky’s Rhein II (1999) which sold for $4.3 million at Christie’s in 2011.Le Violon d’Ingres will be auctioned off of the private collection of Rosalind Gersten Jacobs and Melvin Jacobs. In 1962, the couple bought the photograph directly from Man Ray. The couple’s daughter, Peggy Jacobs Bader is overseeing the sale, which will be offered in a live single-owner sale dedicated to the Jacobs’ Surrealist art collection at Christie’s in New York.Image: Le Violon d'Ingres/Man Ray via WikiArt#ManRay #photograph #violin #LeViolondIngres #auction
Fender Creates an Electric Guitar Inspired by a Stradivarius Violin
Meet the Violinmaster Telecaster Relic, a limited edition release by Fender Custom Shop. Fender Custom Shop is dedicated to producing special-order guitars and limited edition high-end quality instruments. The newest addition to their lineup was inspired by the famous “Gibson-Huberman” Stradivarius violin, which is currently owned by Grammy award-winning violinist Joshua Bell.Bell let the custom shop’s master builder Yuriy Shishkov examine the instrument to create the limited edition guitar. Shishkov did his best to pay tribute to the 300-year-old violin! The guitar was made from the same materials and sources with which the Stradivarius was built. In addition, the guitar’s flame maple body has a carved “Stradivari” spruce top with proportionally scaled Stradivarius violin f-holes and purfling.Image credit: Dallas Tone Shop#Instruments #CustomGuitar #Stradivarius #Violin #Fender
