Hasbro Will Turn You Into an Action FigureMolding toys was once a story of scale. It was only worth the trouble if you knew you could sell millions of them. But now 3D printing makes custom fabricating a one-time object nor only feasible, but fun. Hasbro has taken that idea to heart, and now offers you the opportunity to have an action figure made that looks just like you! Okay, we know what you'd like- your face on an action figure from your favorite comic book or movie. The Hasbro Selfie Series is doing just that. It's not just 3D printing making this possible. Your face can be scanned through Hasbros' phone app. The six-inch custom figure will run you only $60. A few lucky folks will have an opportunity to be scanned for the Selfie Series at Comic Con next week. However, it will probably takes months for the finished product to arrive. Illustrating Marvel Superheroes in Their Free TimeComic book superheroes are larger than life. They are always saving the world, defeating supervillains, and mending rifts in the space-time continuum. At least that's what we see. Yeah, sometimes they fall in love and deal with family matters, but those are cinematic enough to make it into the movies. How about offscreen? Do these heroes ever take a bath, watch sports, or do something just for fun? Barcelona artist and photographer David Cubero gives us a glimpse into the everyday world of superheroes with his realistic customized action figures. We see them playing games, although you have to watch out for those with superpowers involving sight.
George Lucas Action Figure is a StormtrooperWhen George Lucas was riding high on the success of Star Wars, the original 1977 movie, he made a deal with 20th Century Fox while negotiating The Empire Strikes Back that gave Lucas merchandising rights to all Star Wars films. The franchise went on to become a merchandising bonanza, ensuring that Lucas would never be hungry again. Lucasfilm will mark the company's 50th anniversary in 2022. As part of that celebration, Lucasfilm, now owned by Disney, has teamed up with Hasbro to bring us a commemorative limited edition action figure of George Lucas dressed as a stormtrooper. The six-inch action figure is quite flattering, with Lucas' head from 2005 attached to his body of 1977.
