When George Lucas was riding high on the success of Star Wars, the original 1977 movie, he made a deal with 20th Century Fox while negotiating The Empire Strikes Back that gave Lucas merchandising rights to all Star Wars films. The franchise went on to become a merchandising bonanza, ensuring that Lucas would never be hungry again.
Lucasfilm will mark the company's 50th anniversary in 2022. As part of that celebration, Lucasfilm, now owned by Disney, has teamed up with Hasbro to bring us a commemorative limited edition action figure of George Lucas dressed as a stormtrooper. The six-inch action figure is quite flattering, with Lucas' head from 2005 attached to his body of 1977.
While the toy is meant to honor Lucas' legacy for the 50th anniversary of his production company next year, it is expected to be available before Christmas.
This is not the first George Lucas action figure. He was also enshrined in a 3.75-inch doll in 1977, also dressed as a stormtrooper. -via Uproxx
