TikTok Star Gets Fined After Sending A Golf Ball To The Grand Canyon

There are always consequences for your actions. Well, at least she got the clout that she wanted.

A 20-year-old TikTok influencer has been fined after posting a video of herself golfing on the edge of the Grand Canyon National Park. Now, anyone would love to see the scenic views of the popular tourist spot with the added bonus of someone doing an action so mundane you’d think it was illegal to do in the park.

Spoiler alert: it was. Katie Sigmond, the TikTok star, who can be seen in the video on the edge of the Grand Canyon’s South Rim, east of Mather Point, garnered a lot of clout for her stunt. Her video gained virality, but for the wrong reasons.

Social media users condemned her for littering as well as endangering people and wildlife because of her stunt. Some people on the Internet who saw her post, which was spread on various platforms such as Reddit, sent some tips to the Grand Canyon law enforcement.

The authorities then identified and contacted Sigmond within a day of her posting the golfing video. Sigmond got 3 federal violation notices, which serve as tickets issued by the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service.

The social media personality was charged with three Class B misdemeanors as detailed under Title 36 in the Code of Federal Regulations. These are for throwing items into the Canyon (such as her golf club and ball), littering, and creating hazardous conditions with disorderly conduct. Sigmond was ordered to pay a $285 fine, which the star did.
