M&M's has recently announced its first new character in over a decade. Like the old characters, this new character will bring a new color to the already colorful candy gang, all of whom had a makeover last January.
Representing inclusivity and acceptance is Purple. Mars's official website describes Purple as someone with "keen self-awareness, authenticity and confidence" — factors that drive her charm and quirky nature. Mars Wrigley Global Vice President Jane Hwang states that their new character serves as a reminder for us "to celebrate what makes us unique."
But Purple's introduction does not stop with a mere announcement. M&M's has teamed up with a group of creators to create the song and music video titled "I'm Just Gonna Be Me," which features the new character. As part of its mission to increase a sense of belonging to people, the brand made the song available on all major music streaming platforms.
