Jodie Whittaker is retiring as Doctor Who after five years in the TARDIS. When she regenerates as a new Doctor for the new TV season, the role will be played by Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa in the 14th incarnation of the character. The 29-year-old Gatwa has been in several films and television shows, most notably as Eric Effiong in the Netflix series Sex Education. He won a Scottish BAFTA for that role in 2020, and was nominated for another BAFTA in 2021.
Gatwa will be the first Black actor to play the Doctor, unless you count Jo Martin's appearance as the Fugitive Doctor and a couple of the the Timeless Child versions. Read more about Gatwa and his new role at Deadline.
