Over the years, The Walking Dead developed a game of sorts with their willingness to kill off main characters, particularly in the season finale and mid-season finale episodes. As the show aged, this became less and less of a thing, as the production's announcement for spinoffs, movies, and other new projects spoiled the odds ahead of time. For example, since we got the news that a new series will revolve around Daryl and Carol, the only survivors from the first season of TWD, we can breath easier each time they are in danger. AMC announced another upcoming series today in the universe of The Walking Dead. If you want to avoid spoilers for the current season, you'll want to stop reading now, because the old characters in the new series obviously will not be killed off on The Walking Dead.
The zombie apocalypse universe already has The Walking Dead, which is in its eleventh and final season now, plus Fear the Walking Dead, the limited series The Walking Dead: World Beyond, an upcoming anthology series called Tales of the Walking Dead, the untitled Daryl and Carol series, the Rick Grimes movies, and now we can look forward to a series called Isle of the Dead, premiering in 2023. This series will revolve around the characters Maggie and Negan.
In Isle of the Dead, Maggie and Negan will find themselves in "a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror."
Well, that's all we need to know to fill in some blanks. Neither Maggie nor Negan will bite the dust in the current season. They will meet again, and they will get along for at least six episodes together, which is what the first season of Isle of the Dead will consist of. While it's a bit surprising that Maggie will be able to let go of her hatred for the man who killed her husband, and Negan will come anywhere near Maggie again, it's no more surprising than seeing the dead rise and walk again.
