A Guide to HBO's House of the Dragon

The HBO series Game of Thrones enthralled audiences for seven seasons, and then dropped the ball wrapping up the story in the eighth. Some blame rushing the story, while others fault George R.R. Martin for not completing the source books. Still, those seven seasons have audiences clamoring for more about the fictional world of dynasties and dragons from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire. To fulfill that desire, the producers are stepping back 200 years for a prequel series called House of the Dragon.

The most important thing to know about House of the Dragon is that it is based on Martin's finished book Fire & Blood: 300 Years Before A Game of Thrones, so there should be a cohesive plot. It's your choice whether or not to read the book before the series comes out. However, the difference between 200 years and 300 years may inform you of the creative license the TV production will take.

There's not much of the series we've been able to actually see yet, save for a few stills and the teaser above, but io9 has a rundown on everything we do know, about House of the Dragon and other media that will eventually be produced from A Song of Ice and FireHouse of the Dragon will debut sometime in 2022.
