The London Eye May Not Be Seen Again By 2028
The London Eye, also known as the Millenium Wheel, was opened on December 31, 1999. After decades of being part of the iconic landmarks in the city, there is a chance that it could be removed by 2028.The reason lies behind how its stay is organized. Upon its construction in the 90s, the London Eye was only set to have a five-year lease, which was then continuously extended until today. The current lease only runs until 2028, and there has been no confirmation that it will be extended in the near future. Merlin Entertainments, The London Eye’s operator, is planning to apply to the Lambeth Council to keep it there for longer. "Now is the time to ensure the Eye can be enjoyed for generations to come, and we look forward to working with Lambeth Council to secure the necessary amendment to the existing planning permission," Mike Vallis, the division director of the company stated.
