How James Cameron Pitched Aliens
Ridley Scott gave us the sci-fi horror film Alien in 1979, then James Cameron wrote and directed the very different sci-fi action sequel Aliens in 1986. This was rather early in Cameron's winning streak- he had only directed one film, yet that was The Terminator, which was quite successful. A story has been told about how Cameron got the Aliens job, which honestly sounds like an urban legend because it's just too perfect to be true. The way that the story goes, Cameron – brimming with confidence and his signature brand of swagger – took a meeting in front of a room full of corporate suits. He wrote the word “Alien” on a board. Then he pluralized it, making it “Aliens” and insinuating he was about to up the ante on this planned sequel. Finally, he drew two lines through the S he had added, turning it onto a dollar sign.Just recently, CinemaBlend interviewed Cameron about his new book, Tech Noir: The Art of James Cameron. They had to ask about the story, and Cameron confirmed it was true. He told the expanded version as he recalls it, and what he thinks about it in hindsight. It's well worth a read at CinemaBlend. -via Digg #Aliens #JamesCameron #moviepitch
