Disney's Live-Action Pinocchio Remake Joins the Crowd
The teaser trailer for Disney's live-action remake of Pinocchio has dropped. Calling it "live action" is just a little more accurate than calling the CGI animals in the remake of The Lion King "live action." Tom Hanks as Geppetto is certainly himself, although hidden under a voluminous mustache. There are a few other roles played by people, but we don't see them in the trailer, except for a glimpse of Cynthia Erivo as The Blue Fairy, only partially animated by special effects. The puppets and the animals are animated. The movie will premiere on Disney+ on September 8. The year 2022 is the year of Pinocchio. Back in March, a CGI version of the story from Lionsgate starring Pauley Shore called Pinocchio: A True Story went straight to DVD and on-demand. Then in December, we'll see Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, which is completely animated, and will give us a darker, grittier version of the story. It's supposed to be a little closer to the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, while the Disney version will stick close to the story of its own 1940 film.
