An Honest Trailer for the Book of Boba FettThe opening premise of this Honest Trailer made me laugh. When we try to find out more about a minor Star Wars character, or a major character for that matter, we can only be disappointed. The Book of Boba Fett has wrapped up its first season, and we don't know if there will be another. Reviews from critics and fans are mixed. The series was a spinoff of The Mandalorian, but it seemed like it never really separated itself from the earlier series.
Boba Fett and the Sarlacc: Canon EditionWith the rise subscription streaming services, there has also risen a section of the public who do not subscribe to every streaming service available, yet want to keep up with a series here or there anyway. You can do this by reading what's on the internet and seeing a posted video here and there. I count myself among those folks; that's how I know what happened on Game of Thrones without HBO. In any case, the new Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett has started on Disney+. In the opening episode, we find out the Disney canon version of how Boba Fett escaped being slowly digested inside a sarlacc. If you plan to watch the episode and want to avoid spoilers, you'll want to stop here and read some other post on Pop Culturista. The question of what to do with a beloved character after they die has been around since 1983, when Boba Fett was thrown into the sarlacc pit, presumably to die, in Return of the Jedi. Fans wanted more of Boba Fett, because we just adore a good villain, especially when he comes across as a badass fighter. The "expanded universe" of comics and novels resurrected Fett with various explanations that could work if you wanted them to badly enough. The explanation laid out in The Book of Boba Fett borrowed heavily from those stories, even though they are no longer canon. SPOILER QUOTEWe watch in the opening minutes of the episode as the bounty hunter wakes up inside the beast’s stomach and uses a dead stormtrooper’s leftover oxygen supply to survive long enough to burn his way out of the sarlacc with his wrist-mounted flamethrower. We see him digging himself out and onto the dunes just a few yards from the dead sarlacc’s mouth. There's more to the story, like the timeline this presents, which leaves a lot of questions. A Look at The Book of Boba FettIn the Star Wars universe, whether the dead stay dead depends on whether the character is a fan favorite. Audiences latched on to the bounty hunter Boba Fett so much that his death was undone by a daring escape from the sarlacc he was pushed into in The Return of the Jedi. Fett got a backstory in the prequel movie Attack of the Clones. But Star Wars fans wanted more. Boba Fett appeared in two episode of The Mandalorian, leading us to think that he would have a more prominent role in season three. But that was a teaser for the new series The Book of Boba Fett. Behold the trailer.
