Why Pirates Of The Caribbean Was Doomed to Run Out of Steam

As the 21st century dawned, Disney had a ridiculous idea: make a feature film based on one of their theme park rides. Usually, it's the other way around, where theme park rides are designed for people to relive an existing Disney film. And the ride they chose was Pirates Of The Caribbean, so movie people laughed. Everyone knows pirates were played out! What did Disney think this is, the 1960s? But the movie Pirates Of The Caribbean was made, and was a huge hit in 2003.
