When Albert “Cubby” Broccoli and Harry Saltzman began planning the first James Bond film, they could have cast Cary Grant, who was one of the biggest movie stars on the planet at the time. Grant had already done wildly successful action movies, dramas, and comedies, and had even portrayed spies before. He was talented, suave, and attractive, and seemed to be everything that the silver screen Bond needed to be. Also, Grant was such a close friend to Broccoli that he served as best man in Broccoli's wedding!
Grant would have made the perfect Bond, but it wasn't to be. Instead, Sean Connery, who was 26 years younger, made five Bond films before another actor was considered.
