The New Texas Chainsaw Massacre Sequel

Netflix is bringing us another chapter in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre saga, but this one  might take some explaining. It is titled The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but it is not a remake of the 1974 film. It is a sequel. But this one is a direct sequel to the original, and ignores -or maybe it's supposed to replace -the seven sequel movies already produced. In other words, it's the second chapter of the story of Leatherface. Are you still with me? In a comment at the above-linked article, TaumpyTearrs explains the TCM movies we have already.

They already tried the “ignore all the sequels and this is the REAL sequel to the original” with this franchise back in 2013 with the shitty Texas Chainsaw 3D.

The franchise so far:

original movie ‘74, three sequels ‘86, ‘90, ‘95

Reboot movie in 2003, followed by prequel to the remake in 2006

Sequel to the original ignoring other entries in 2013

Prequel to that movie and the original in 2017.

Now I'm really confused. Anyway, the 2022 Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre wants us to ignore all the previous movies except for the 1974 original. A long time has passed, and a group of millennial hipsters from Austin happen upon Leatherface, who's been laying low for decades. And this time, Leatherface may be a more sympathetic character. Director Fede Álvarez says, "This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story. He's been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant." We'll find out how that works out on February 18, when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre debuts on Netflix.
