They say that 14 lbs is roughly the equivalent of carrying around 224 slices of bacon in the body. According to a new study, Californians are okay with this added weight, as long as they can continue consuming their favorite alcoholic beverage.
Californians, who are considered a health-conscious bunch, are willing to continue drinking despite the risk of weight gain and the overall negative effects of alcohol. However, they actually fall roughly in the middle when it comes to how many pounds they’d be willing to pile on to keep drinking.
Rhode Islanders are willing to gain extra 28 pounds just to keep drinking. Drinkers in Hawaii, South Dakota, Utah, and Vermont are more afraid to lose their hard-earned six-packs. They are only willing to accept eight pounds of weight gain.
Another interesting figure from a 2021 study by Alcohol.org states that the average American drinker is willing to give up three years of their life if it means they can continue to drink.
A different survey also showed that 53% of Americans polled believe that alcohol calories are somehow different than “regular” calories. The other 46% of those polled believe that moderate consumption of alcohol has health benefits, despite some studies showing otherwise.
