Force ghosts first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back when Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was slain at the end of the first Star Wars movie, appears to Luke Skywalker in order to counsel him.
Canonically, these Force ghosts, both Jedi and Sith, have appeared throughout the Star Wars franchise. This clever cosplay photographed by Twitter user @dodgeroo shows Qui-Gon Jinn in The Last Jedi. The unknown cosplayer appears to be covered with a fine blue netting that simulates the astral projection.
