Reports from Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Disney World

Walt Disney World's newest attraction opens on March first, an entire theme park dedicated to an immersive Star Wars adventure. The package deal of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser includes two nights at the Halcyon and participation in an outer space mission in which the guests are characters in a storyline. The cost is $5,000 for two adults, or $6,000 for two adults and one child. So what do you get for that? A preview run for journalists and influencers is yielding reviews.

The Halcyon hotel is compared to a bunk in a cruise ship. Well, it's supposed to be a spaceship. A room can sleep up to five people, but may seem cramped for even two. There are no windows, but you'll have a video screen that shows a view of space as you are traveling through it. Even the small outdoor courtyard is framed as a hologram. But you aren't supposed to do much besides sleep at the Halcyon.

The park adventure gets better marks, particularly if you submit yourself to the immersive experience and do all the things Disney has planned. You can opt out of parts of it, but then you won't be getting your money's worth. People who are really into the Star Wars experience had a wonderful time. A few others bemoaned the amount of time spent looking at your smartphone, since that's how all the adventure is directed. The cast members who play the characters, however, get raves from everyone. That's the short version. You can read a roundup of the first reviews of Disney's Galactic Starcruiser at SFGate.
