Pi Day is traditionally celebrated not to mark the math equation itself. Somehow, somebody cheekily borrowed the Pi number (3.14) to celebrate, well, pie. And heretofore, March 14 is known as the day to commemorate everyone’s beloved baked buns.
This year, in celebration of Pi Day, Yelp ranked the best-reviewed pie shops in every state and in California, one small San Diego bakery came out on top.
The family-run California Mountain Bakery has perfect five-star rating from Yelp reviewers, who raved about their selections of sweet and savory pies. The shop does walk-ins only on the weekends. Customers can also get their goods on select local grocery stores and markets.
The bakery is run by two generations of the Padilla family. Father and children work in the store, where everything is made from scratch everyday, using the freshest in-season ingredients available.
Located in a mountain range, many customers commented that a visit to the bakery complemented their hiking experiences. Some even made a sojourn to the mountain just to grab a slice of fresh pie from them.
