"Jaws" Child Extra is Now Police Chief on the Island the Movie was Filmed

Life imitates art as this man who had a brief role in the movie “Jaws” has been appointed police chief at the Massachusetts town where the film was filmed. Jaws was a 1975 movie about a police chief trying to protect a popular resort town from shark attacks. Some scenes were filmed at Martha’s Vineyard, where Jonathan Searle will begin his term as police chief next week.

As a kid, Searle played one of the two children who sent beachgoers in the Steven Spielberg movie in a frenzy when they were playing with fake shark fins at sea. The scene was brief, but it was one of the more memorable ones in the classic summer blockbuster.

Last week, Searle was offered the job of police chief in Martha’s Vineyard’s Oak Bluffs. He followed the path of his father, who also served as police chief in Edgartown.
