Heavy metal music fans may seem dark and angry to those who don't know them, but actually the opposite is true. You might even call their music "happy metal." That comes from several factors: a sense of community, stress relief, a sense of freedom from societal expectations, catharsis, and the basic human enjoyment of music. Science says so, so maybe you don't have to panic when your kids get into metal.
