The 2009 Quentin Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds gave us bloodthirsty Nazi hunters, but we were okay with them because they were on the right side.
The real bad guy was the Nazi Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his performance. But it was more than Waltz' amazing acting that made the role memorable.
Nerdstalgic breaks down his performance to explain the tricks used to make Colonel Hans Landa thoroughly charming while instilling fear and dread in everyone he encountered. And the audience, too.
Tarantino's scheme of holding Waltz' acting chops from the other actors until the film rolled paid off.
You can almost imagine the cast with the same feeling in the pit of their stomachs as when we first saw Inglourious Basterds. Can you really imagine Leonardo DiCaprio as the Jew Hunter, a monster, a psychopath? Sure, his character was evil in Django Unchained, but he comes across as American as Brad Pitt (he wasn't believable as a Rhodesian in Blood Diamond, either).
Going with lesser-known Austrian actor Christoph Waltz was the perfect decision. -via Digg
