Ghanian movie posters have become a globally recognized cultural phenomenon. As Western and especially American movies were imported to Ghana and aired with perhaps reduced attention to copyright laws, artists in Ghana painted posters to promote the airings. The most popular among them share particular stylistic norms, among them a decided emphasis on bloody action, explosions, and monsters.
Deadley Prey is a company that employs ten Ghanian artists to compose original film posters that are displayed in galleries and sold online. Most recently, the artists created two posters for the Barbie movie. I haven’t seen that movie, but I can safely assume that it features demonic attacks.
