Tribbles (polygeminus grex) are small, furry, and non-intelligent creatures in the Star Trek universe. They are extremely efficient creatures and a model for modern life because they do nothing other than rest, utter meaningless sounds, and reproduce themselves without having sex.
These animals first appeared on the classic Star Trek episode “The Trouble with Tribbles,” which is among the most popular episodes of the original series, despite, in my opinion, being one of the worst.
The prop masters for Star Trek made many tribbles for the episode, as a lot were necessary for the episode’s most famous scene. Only a few were made to vibrate. Two of those few are now up for auction at Heritage Auctions. There’s a starting bid of $2,000. But since tribbles reproduce asexually, you really only need one.
