Family Farm in Israel Grows Record Breaking Giant Strawberry

A strawberry cultivated from an Israeli farm has just been declared the world’s heaviest in the world. Weighing 289 grams (more than half a pound!), the berry was officially bestowed the superlative title by the Guinness World Records.

The fruit was picked from Chahi Ariel’s farm near the city of Netanya, Israel around February 2021. It took them a year to have the record verified by Guinness. All the while, the strawberry has been kept in a freezer. Though it has shrunk and shriveled since the discovery, its gigantic proportion remains unmissable.

Previous record-holder of the title was a Japanese strawberry grown in 2015 in Fukuoka that tipped the scale at 250 grams.
