The 1985 movie Back to the Future was such a good time that we all forget it came out 37 years ago. It seems like just yesterday. Well, it's a story about time travel, so maybe it was just yesterday! Screenwriter Bob Gale, who wrote all three BTTF films, wrote a musical stage production of the original story, and in 2020, Back to the Future: The Musical opened at the Manchester Opera House in the UK. It closed soon after due to the pandemic. But then it re-launched in London last year, and has proven to be a hit.
It's about time we Americans got to see it. Back to the Future: The Musical will open at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway on August 3, 2023. Previews will begin June 30. Two actors from the London production are confirmed for the American show: Roger Bart as Dr. Emmett Brown (shown above with Christopher Lloyd) and Hughes Coles as George McFly. The role of Marty McFly hasn't even been cast yet, but tickets will go on sale for the show this Friday, October 28.
