A First Look at Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings

We've been waiting for months, looking forward to Amazon's new TV series based on JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The project has been kept under wraps pretty well so far, but today we finally get a teaser. It doesn't show much, but it does reveal the name of the series.

But the title itself reveals quite a bit. The Rings of Power is a clue that the series will take place in the Second Age, and therefore be a distant prequel to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The Second Age was when nineteen rings were worn by the leaders of Middle-Earth. ...and were controlled by the One Ring that Sauron wore. Take a primer on what these rings mean here. The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon on September 2.

Many people thought that Amazon's title reveal video was CGI but as you can see in this behind the scenes clip, the whole sequence was actually hand made at a foundry.

To achieve the effect, molten metal was poured onto a reclaimed redwood board. Sparkler dust, argon dust and liquid hydrogen were also used to get the practical effect.
