Tributes to Tina Turner (1939-2023)

The news came today that Tina Turner passed away at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland. The Queen of Rock and Roll had been suffering from cancer, the effects of strokes, and kidney failure. She was 83.

Tina Turner rose to fame when she joined Ike Turner in St. Louis in 1957. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue came to be known for their high-energy performances, and are best remembered for the song "Proud Mary," released in 1971. After leaving Ike, Tina toured the world, and released a string of hit songs in the 1980s. She also played the Acid Queen in the 1975 movie Tommy, and portrayed Aunty Entity in the 1985 film Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Tina Turner sold more than 100 million records and won 12 Grammys.

Everyone loved Tina Turner. A long line of heartfelt tributes flooded the internet as soon as the news of her death came.
