The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this morning announced which films and actors are in the running for this year's Oscars. The ten movies from 2022 that are up for the Best Picture Award are (in alphabetical order):
All Quiet on the Western Front
Avatar: The Way of Water
The Banshees of Inisherin
Everything Everywhere All at Once
Top Gun: Maverick
Triangle of Sadness
Everything Everywhere All at Once received eleven nominations, the most of any film this year. These include all the top awards except for Best Actor, but two in the category of Best Supporting Actress, plus the categories of costumes, original score, original screenplay, original song, and film editing.
A notable nomination in the Best Actress category is Ana de Armas in the Netflix movie Blonde. The movie garnered eight nominations for the Razzie awards, given to the year's worst movies. Ana de Armas herself is not up for a Razzie, which confirms the opinions of both critics and audiences that Blonde was an overall awful movie, with de Armas' stunning performance as Marilyn Monroe as the sole bright spot.
